Audemars Piguet gives an unusual makeover to its iconic Millenary collection for women. All set to be a rage in 2018, these watches now come with ‘second skin’ bracelets.
For a woman, a watch is not merely an accessory. It’s an important part of her entire look. A lady’s wardrobe is never complete without her set of different watches, which she dons on different occasions. Understanding and appreciating this innate need of a woman of class, Audemars Piguet had revealed its Millenary collection. First created in 1995, the latest collection was launched in 2015. For more than two decades, the elliptical case and the off-centre dial of this three-dimensional timepiece has etched itself in the hearts of its patrons.
Now, as we’re on the cusp of welcoming a brand new year, Audemars Piguet gives stylish divas a never-seen-before bracelet on the iconic Millenary watches. These ‘second skin’ metal bracelets enhance the pink and gold cases of the 2015 collection, making it more relevant to the fashion trends of 2018.
Strapped in style
The Maison unveiled the Millenary collection with the new bracelets at the Dubai Watch Week on 17th December. The watch itself is an example of exceptional mechanical skills. Its design is inspired by contemporary architecture and art. It sets the entire mechanism inside out! Each layer is intricately crafted, right down to its perfect minutest detail. The hand-wound manufacture is built back to front, allowing the wearer to see the beating heart of the watch through and through.
As for the bracelets, they are meant to be experienced rather than merely written about. Each bracelet has a Polish finish that gives the entire watch a vintage makeover. It goes well with the oval shape and Roman numerals of the watch. The bracelet is designed on the lines of the Milanese ones, which were a rage in the ’50s and ’60s. The design and polish allow for superior comfortable, almost like ‘second skin.’ It also has adjustable links, making it a perfect fit for every woman.
The mesh-like look and feel of the bracelet is truly exceptional. As the Polish technique had its challenges, each bracelet is individually hand-made. Now, that’s something no sophisticated lady can ignore.
Another new feature in the Millenary collection is a new version of a watch with frosted gold case. So far, Audemars Piguet has used this finishing technique only in its classic Royal Oak collection. Created in collaboration with Florentine Jewellery designer, Caroline Bucci, the frosted gold watch has a shimmery surface. This effect is achieved by beating the gold with a diamond tipped pneumatic tool. For this new Millenary, the bezel, the inner bezel, the top of the lugs and the case’s sides at 9 and 3 o’clock have been frosted. Thanks to the frosted gold effect, the watch seems to be sparkling like its covered with diamond dust.
Millenary watches have wowed women the world over since their first introduction in 1995. in 2018, we see Audemars Piguet’s feminine patrons sporting a new edgy look. With textures, patterns and colours to suit every personality, Millenary watches reflect the high-flying lifestyle of the modern woman.
