Franck Muller has been wowing Australian’s with their elaborate, creative and innovative designs ever since they opened their first flagship in Melbourne on Collins Street in 2008. To commemorate its eighth year in the country, the Geneva based brand, has decided to launch an Australian specific limited edition this 2017: The Vanguard Australian Limited Edition. It’s been a while since we’ve had a country specific limited edition and when we do it’s a BIG deal and if it’s from a brand like Franck Muller, it’s an even BIGGER deal.
The watch comes in two versions: brushed titanium which is limited to 18 pieces and polished rose gold (limited to 8 pieces). The first thing you’ll probably notice is the appliqué relief kangaroo sporting a pair of boxing gloves, in the centre of the dial. The marsupial may be the unofficial symbol of Down Under but it features prominently in Australian culture and folklore. In particular, the boxing kangaroo — the mascot for the Australia II team in the 1983 America’s Cup — is popular at sporting events with Australian participation. A boxing kangaroo motif is also engraved on the caseback of the Franck Muller Vanguard Australian Limited Edition.”
Housed in the iconic Vanguard case, is Franck Muller’s self‐winding Calibre FM0800. The ticker is a simple, three‐hand automatic piece with a date window at 6 o’clock. Both versions come with a sun‐brushed black dial with appliqué white hour markers.
Not only is the watch an indication of the Franck Muller business growing from strength to strength in Australia, it’s also a way of paying tribute to a country known for its warmth and hospitality.
“From the first time we set foot in this great country eight years ago, we’ve met nothing but warm, friendly faces. From the suppliers to our partners to the consumers, we’re grateful to their hospitality and for their openness for accepting a new brand like us back then,” explains Nicolas Rudaz, Director of Watchland.
“It’s also heart‐warming to see how much the Australian consumers have matured together with us in terms of horological knowledge and appreciation. That’s why my team and I have decided to create the Vanguard Australian Limited Edition to pay homage to the country. And what better way than to celebrate this milestone and wonderful relationship with a Vanguard piece that features a symbol that symbolises all things Australian — the Sporting Kangaroo”
