INTRODUCING: Breguet Classique 5177 Grand Feu Blue Enamel

by Hours and Minutes Australia

Nothing comes close to defining luxury and tradition than the prestigious watchmaker ‘Breguet’. Announced just hours ago, the Breguet Classique 5177 Grand Feu Blue Enamel is the newest member of the maison’s Classique collection. With a beautiful deep blue enamel dial, this extremely elegant time only with date model is a clear reminder of why Breguet has remained amongst the most revered watchmakers in the world for centuries.

The blue here is inspired by Breguet’s iconic blued steel hands and required extensive research right from the beginning for the development of the enamel pigment. It’s all about finding the perfect shade of blue, which is achieved by firing the dial in a Kiln at 800 degrees Celsius.

The silvered numerals, markers and the Breguet eccentric ‘moon’ tip hands in rhodium-plated steel creates a beautiful contrast against the deep blue enamel dial surface. Powdered tracing has been used for the numerals and markers. The date figures are treated using the same process in order to aid visibility, due to the positioning of the aperture that sits in a
darkened lower level window. Finally, Breguet’s secret signature, also in enamel, appears at 6 o’clock. For all of its timepieces with an enamel dial, the House of Breguet continues to use the calligraphy once drawn by Abraham-Louis Breguet, as featured, for example, on the self-winding Breguet No. 15 watch launched in 1787.

The simple elegance of the fluted caseband, ultra-thin case profile and lugs makes this watch a timeless classic. The 18 carat white gold case measures 38mm in diameter, and has the iconic Breguet coined edge. Simplistic at heart just like the brand’s DNA, a blue alligator leather strap secured with screw-pins and an 18k white gold pin buckle completes the look of this vintage-inspired timepiece.

Perfectly complementing the subtlety of the front, the movement is decorated with techniques such as circular graining, chamfering, brushing and Côtes de Genève; all visible through the sapphire crystal caseback. Also engraved on the caseback is the watch’s individual number marking it unique to its owner. In turn, the owner can have their name recorded in the Breguet registers that have been kept since 1780 – as a contemporary sign of their taste for timeless elegance. For this model, Breguet has incorporated a 777Q movement that features a silicon hairspring, lever and escape wheel to optimize its chronometric reliability. It beats at a high frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and delivers a power reserve of 55 hours. Certain aesthetic elements of this 2019 New Model caliber, in particular the form of the wheels, are reminiscent of Breguet’s creations from the late eighteenth century.
