INTRODUCING: Officine Panerai Luminor Marina PAM01313

by Hours and Minutes Australia

Legendary in the watch world is a word thrown around too often and quite frivolously. However, in this case, that word is truly justified. In a year clearly dedicated to the Luminor family, Panerai presents the new 44mm Luminor Marina PAM01313 in AISI 316L brushed steel and a gorgeous blue dial with satiné soleil decoration.

Panerai’s historic diver’s watch – “Luminor” (inspired by the luminous substance tritium used in the Second World War to replace Radiomir) was originally conceived in the early 50’s. With its distinct identity and original design, such as the sandwich structure dial, cushion-shaped case, crown-protecting bridge, the Luminor has come a long way and is clearly here to stay.

Rewriting its aesthetic vocabulary, the new Luminor Marina PAM01313 is characterized by the neon green of its retro luminescence, an unvarying evocative colour also referred to as Panerai’s High-performance Super-LumiNova.

The watch is powered by a 6mm thick automatic movement, P.9010. Reliable and accurate, it has a power reserve of three days provided by a twin spring barrel and a distinctive practical function for quickly setting the hour hand, which can be moved in steps of one hour forwards or backwards, at the same time automatically adjusting the date.

Water-resistant to 30 bar (a depth of about 300 metres), the new Luminor Marina (PAM01313) is fitted with an alligator leather strap and brushed steel buckle. To give this divers delight a sportier feel, Panerai is also adding a rubber strap with every purchase and a special tool for changing it; and a screwdriver for removing the clasp.

Now although the new Luminor Marina PAM01313 is considered and often labeled as a tool watch, I could so visualise it on my wrist as I sip on a cool glass of Chardonnay overlooking a beautiful sunset. That Lume at sunset would be quite a sight, I reckon!
