INTRODUCING: Oris Big Crown Pointer Date With a Red Dial

by Hours and Minutes Australia

The Pointer Date has been a core part of Oris’ Aviation pillar, ever since it made its debut in 1938. This year, Oris has something truly exquisite up its sleeve – Meet the new Big Crown Pointer Date with a glossy red dial.

Simply put, a pointer date function, replaces the standard date window found in watches these days with an analogue format. The simplicity and reliability of the mechanism, together with the choice of hues, make this as good as any analogue date watch you could possibly have.

Designs come and go, but the Big Crown Pointer Date has endured and keeps getting stronger. For this release, Oris has gone for a simple and quite traditional look. The red used on the dial isn’t too out there and frankly does wonders for the watch. The cathedral hands, numbers and indices are coated with Super-Luminova. According to Oris, the tip of the Pointer Date hand you see here was originally an arrow, then a half moon, and today it’s a blend of the two.

The Big Crown wears extremely well on the wrist. At 40mm wide, the size is just right and makes for a great everyday watch.  The multi-piece stainless steel case has an oversized crown at 3 o clock and is fitted with a brown deerskin strap or stainless steel bracelet. Visible through the sapphire crystal caseback, is an automatic winding Oris 754 movement that delivers a power reserve of 38 hours.

Recommended Retail Price: $2,200 Australian Dollars (Brown chamois deer leather strap), $2,400 Australian Dollars (Stainless Steel Bracelet)
