2019 saw some interesting new updates to the Royal Oak Line, including a new dial design, a slightly thicker case and a new in-house calibre (4302) – Subtle yet impactful alterations. As always, the updates were well received… I mean lets face it, the Royal Oak does have an extensive and dedicated fan base, including yours truly 😉
When I think Royal Oak, I think “Jumbo”… But then again that’s just how I like my AP’s. Having said that here’s something the Swiss Haute Horlogerie manufacturer has unveiled to cater to smaller wrists – INTRODUCING: The new 34mm Royal Oak Selfwinding Collection. And no these babies are by no means replacing the current 33 mm Royal Oak Quartz models, but will complement the existing Royal Oak Selfwinding collection.
The collection comprises four models – Stainless steel Ref. 77350ST.OO.1261ST.01 (Stainless steel case, stainless steel bezel, glareproofed sapphire crystal and caseback, stainless steel screw-locked crown, silver-toned dial with “Grande Tapisserie” pattern, white gold applied hour-markers and Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating), Two Tone Ref. 77350SR.OO.1261SR.01 (Stainless steel case, 18-carat pink gold bezel, glareproofed sapphire crystal and caseback, 18-carat pink gold screw-locked crown, silver-toned dial with “Grande Tapisserie” pattern, pink gold applied hour-markers, Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating and stainless steel bracelet with 18-carat pink gold links and AP folding clasp), 18K Pink Gold With Diamond Set Bezel Ref. 77351OR.ZZ.1261OR.01 (18-carat pink gold screw-locked crown, Silver-toned dial with “Grande Tapisserie” pattern, pink gold applied hour-markers, Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating and 18-carat pink gold bracelet with AP folding clasp) and a stainless steel version with diamond-set bezel Ref. 77351ST.ZZ.1261ST.01 (Blue-grey dial with “Grande Tapisserie” pattern, white gold applied hour-markers, Royal Oak hands with luminescent coating and stainless steel bracelet with AP folding clasp)
These references are powered by a new selfwinding movement, calibre 5800, endowed with a dedicated oscillating weight specifically developed for the 34 mm line.
The Royal Oak in a new size – How could you possibly go wrong with that? As versatile as the women they exemplify, these timepieces are effortlessly elegant and yet majestically minimalist in design. All in all great everyday wears and Audemars Piguet’s answer to those a little skeptical of larger dialed Royal Oaks.
