Many would agree that a conversation around TAG Heuer, isn’t complete without a mention of the ‘Carrera’. Ever since it was introduced, the collection has become synonymous with TAG Heuer. The role ‘Carrera’ played in both the history of the brand and modern chronograph timepieces cannot be ignored. Today, it is pretty much a benchmark in the world of chronographs which a lot of brands, are still struggling to achieve. This year TAG Heuer is celebrating its 160th Anniversary as a company and it’s no surprise that the brand has turned to the ‘Carrera’ family to present its newest limited edition celebratory timepiece: TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Silver Limited Edition. Much might have changed for the company, over the years, but the brand’s commitment to innovating and developing cutting-edge creations has remained constant.
Available worldwide to customers from June 2020, this 1860 piece limited edition stainless-steel chronograph takes its inspiration from the 2447S model introduced in 1964. With a case size of 39mm (3mm larger than its predecessor), polished bezel, domed sapphire crystal with double anti-reflective treatment, polished stainless-steel crown at 3 o’clock, push buttons at 2 and 4 o’clock and silver sunray brushed dial, TAG Heuer has maintained most of the attributes of the original design of the Carrera. Other details on the dial include, a silver flange with 60-second/minute scale, silver chronograph counters, a white permanent second indicator at 6 o clock, rhodium-plated polished, facetted hour and minute hands with beige SuperLuminova® and a black lacquered central hand. The “Heuer-only” logo just below 12 adds the finishing touch.
Presented on a black alligator strap, this model is limited to 1860 pieces – a nod to the year that Heuer was founded – and “One of 1860” and “LIMITED EDITION” are engraved on the case-back. The redesigned oscillating weight, visible through the screwed-down sapphire crystal, is adorned with a lacquer-filled engraving that distinguishes the timepiece as an anniversary edition.
The new TAG Heuer Carrera 160 Years Silver Limited Edition runs on a HEUER 02 calibre. This sophisticated in-house innovation is entirely Swiss-made in TAG Heuer’s Chevenez manufacture. It comprises 168 components, including a column wheel and a vertical clutch – signatures of improved chronograph timekeeping and high-quality manufacture movements – and boasts an impressive power reserve of 80 hours.
