Over the years, we’ve seen the Carrera in different avatars: new colours, new designs, new materials… You name it! The watch, along with the Rolex Cosmograph of course, set a benchmark in the world of chronograph watches which other brands, even today still struggle to achieve.
To mark the brand’s 160th anniversary this year, TAG Heuer is presenting four new Carrera chronographs (Previously known as the ‘Carrera Elegant’ collection) featuring an elegant, refined and modern look inspired by the pure style that first made the TAG Heuer Carrera iconic.
With a sleek stainless steel bezel, which has been designed without a tachymeter scale to keep the overall aesthetics in line
with the unforgettable silver-dial Heuer Carrera that was originally launched in 1963, the design works exceptionally well in retaining the attention of the wearer. If you’re the board room personality, this watch was clearly made for you.
The case is 42mm in diameter and with that size has quite a presence on the wrist (further fuelled by the opaline black or sunray brushed blue, anthracite and silver dials). The dial houses “azurage” subdials at 3 (Minute Chronograph Counter) and 9 o’clock (Hour Chronograph Counter) and a running small-second counter at 6 o’clock above a discreet date window. Two pushers on the right side of the case operate the chronograph function.
Making use of the highly accurate Calibre Heuer 02 movement, the watch beats at 28,800vph, boasting an 80-hour power reserve. The movement comprises 168 components, including a column wheel and a vertical clutch.
The models with black and blue dials are presented on a streamlined H-shaped stainless-steel bracelet. The angles of the outer and inner links are rounded for a more fluid appearance and the bracelet is thinner for improved comfort. On the other hand, the bicoloured version with a silver-coloured dial and rose-gold-plated hands and the model with a deep anthracite dial are paired with a handsome brown alligator leather strap. The screw-down sapphire caseback provides a fascinating view of the innovative movement inside, made even more exclusive by its rose-gold-coloured oscillating mass.
