Two-and-a-half years in the making – a full 12 months longer than anticipated, the next chapter in luxury watch retail is here. From a 300 square meter space at one stage to the newly acquired 450 square meter space, The Hour Glass Australia opened its doors to a completely revamped / refreshed concept, welcoming 240 guests on the evening of the 8th of June 2017.
Hosted by The Hour Glass Australia’s, Group Managing Director, Michael Tay, the event was attended by clients, watch collectors, media as well as business partners.
The entire motive behind this expansion is to offer Australian watch lovers a space that is authentic and underlines true luxury. “As a retailer, we are extremely particular about every component that goes into the building of the environment”, says Michael Tay. He adds, “I personally feel that with this specific portfolio, positioning and merchandising strategy, our Sydney boutique truly offers watch enthusiasts, buyers, collectors and connoisseurs the most interesting horological experience”.
The boutique looks set to establish itself firmly as the beacon of contemporary watch retail and a horological centre in Sydney and, like all the other spaces within The Hour Glass’s retail network (40 boutiques in 9 cities across Asia-Pacific); is an experience waiting to be discovered.
As a watch enthusiast himself, Michael Tay, has always had a vision for his Australian spaces; a vision to build an institution where horological enthusiasts gather to learn, exchange, and discover more about timepieces and moreover to build a boutique where he would personally like to go. And he’s done exactly that with the new Sydney space along with design partner Hassel. Over the years, The Hour Glass has achieved international acclaim for its approach towards redefining speciality watch retail, which includes the creation of thematic salons and placing an emphasis on developing consumer-oriented cultural engagement platforms to promote the values of authentic luxury.
Well-worth the two-and-a-half years that went into making it, we can tell you that.
