Bvlgari has rewritten the rules of contemporary watchmaking once again, taking home a sixth world record for the thinnest ever tourbillon chronograph in watchmaking history. This record breaking saga all started in 2014 with the launch of the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Manual which featured the thinnest hand-wound flying tourbillon movement in the world, BVL 268 caliber, only 1.95 mm thick. Post that, it was the:
2016 – Octo Finissimo Minute Repeater
Fitted with the ultra-thin 3.12mm BVL 362 movement. A bold design, featuring cut-out dial markers that enables the sound to pass through from the back of the movement, thus amplifying the volume of the chimes.
2017 – Octo Finissimo Automatic
The slimmest ultra-thin self-winding watch on the market, with a total thickness of just 5.15 mm and its self-winding BVL 138 caliber which was just 2.23 mm thick for a 40mm diameter.
2018 – Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Automatic
Featuring an automatic version of the tourbillon calibre at just 3.95mm, the BVL 288 — a peripheral winding rotor, allowing one to view the movement in its entirety with the benefit of automatic winding.
2019 – Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Automatic
The watch features a modern horizontally coupled, column wheel controlled chronograph with peripheral winding and a second time zone function, all within the 3.30mm thin movement, caliber BVL 318. The thinnest ever mechanical Chronograph in watchmaking history.
The Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic Watch unveiled just hours ago at Geneva Watch Days, features a mechanical manufacture ultra-thin skeleton movement with an automatic winding, single-push chronograph (not to be confused with a mono-pusher) and a tourbillon combined for a total thickness of just 7.40mm. How you ask? Instead of using a mainplate, the caliber BVL 388 has been directly integrated in the case. Trying to comprehend the thickness (or lack thereof) of this 7.40mm watch becomes increasingly difficult when you learn that the movement within measures just 3.50mm. The start, stop, and reset functions can be accessed via the pusher at 2 o clock whereas the pusher at 4 o clock is for setting the functions of the crown.
“2020 is the year of the World records at Bvlgari with this new ultra-thin Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic. It is the 6th World record in a row for Octo Finissimo. We already launched last January in Dubai Serpenti Seduttori Tourbillon, the smallest ladies watch Tourbillon on the market which complements Diva Finissima Minute Repeater, the thinnest chiming ladies watch available on the market. Complication and records are without genders at Bvlgari!”, Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bvlgari.
The signature 42mm x 7.40mm octagonal case is crafted from sandblasted grade 5 titanium, and is available with an integrated titanium bracelet. Within the angular case of this watch, is a skeletonised dial that features a chapter ring, minimal typography, well-defined markers, dual registers at 3 and 9 o clock and a tourbillon at 6 o clock.
Limited to just 50 pieces, the new Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Chronograph Skeleton Automatic is priced at approximately USD $142,000.
