Let’s face it! Santos is one watch that will always be en vogue irrespective of its age. Over the years, the Santos has evolved tremendously, yet maintained the integrity of the original design. Its timeless shape never ceases to inspire Cartier for new interpretations.
For 2020, Cartier is renewing its tribute to the dandy that was Santos-Dumont, and to the style he embodied, through the Santos-Dumont XL watch. The collection comprises a set of three watches (18K Pink Gold, 18K Pink Gold and Steel and Steel) available in limited engraved series.
The new Santos-Dumont XL collection has been redesigned with a contoured case and taut lines. 46.6mm x 33.9mm might sound big, but believe me when I say, the Santos-Dumont XL makes for a great everyday watch. The finesse of the case is amplified by the curved lugs, the beaded winding crown and the initials S=D (the signature of Alberto Santos-Dumont) which has been engraved on the slightly domed case back.
The sunray satin-finished dial features large Roman numerals, a brushed inner square, followed by the blued-steel hour and minute hands that have been given a sleek silhouette. A domed sapphire crystal protects the dial. Beating inside the new Santos-Dumont XL is a 430 MC mechanical movement with manual winding, that lends the watch exceptional precision. The movement beats at a frequency of 21’600 vph and delivers a power reserve of 38 hours.
All 3 watches are worn on an alligator leather strap, in Grey, Black and Navy Blue, depending on the model. Guaranteed to make its presence felt in any setting, there’s no way the Santos-Dumont XL can be excluded from any watch enthusiasts collection.
