Back in 2019, Bvlgari rewrote the rules of contemporary watchmaking, taking home a fifth world record for the thinnest ever mechanical chronograph in history. For LVMH Watch Week 2021, Bvlgari presents a stunning new interpretation of the world’s thinnest automatic chronograph with a second time zone. Meet the new Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Titanium with a black opaline dial and a sporty black rubber strap.
Just like the name suggests, this watch combines a chronograph and GMT function that allows it to show two time zones at once. The signature 42mm octagonal case is crafted from titanium and is just 6.90mm thick. Its extremely light construction barely tips the scales at less than 85g. Trying to comprehend the thickness of this watch becomes increasingly difficult when you learn that the movement inside is only 3.3mm thin. The chronograph pushers are seamlessly integrated into the case and the GMT function is adjusted via the pusher at 9 o’clock.
The highlight of this piece is within the angular case of this watch – the black Opaline dial with minimal typography and well-balanced markers, gives the watch a nice uncluttered look. Very unusual for chronographs considering the amount of information that needs to be displayed. There is 30-minute chronograph at 6 o’clock, a running seconds counter at 9 o clock and a the 24-hour counter at 3 o’clock. The black textured rubber strap with titanium pin buckle is designed to fit comfortably on any wrist and along with the rest of the Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Titanium demonstrates the high-level of precision and artistry shown by Bulgari craftsmen and watchmakers.
Bvlgari’s BVL 318 calibre, which also incorporates a GMT function, powers the new Octo Finissimo Chronograph GMT Titanium. The watch, for its slender sophistication, has an impressive 55-hour power reserve. The movement can also be viewed via the transparent caseback.
The oddball for us here is the 30m water-resistance, considering that this is a luxury sport watch and is now being offered on a rubber strap.
A distinctive outlier in the field of men’s watches, Octo Finissimo has always been known for its mechanical excellence and audacious design. Now, with the introduction of these luxury sport models and ever-innovative technologies it emerges as a paragon of the future, raising the bar as the watchmaking icon of the 21st century.
