Jaquet Droz’s latest addition to its Grande Seconde collection, the Grande Seconde Moon Black Enamel promises to be a much-awaited launch at the upcoming BaselWorld 2018. Recognising the importance of the lunar cycle in the horological world, this sophisticated time piece is a fitting homage to the dawn of time, when the moon was used as the exclusive means of measuring the passing months.
Jaquet Droz – Grande Seconde Moon Black Enamel
Dance with the Moon
The sleek black Grand Feu enamel dial depicts the entire moon cycle, from new moon to the last quarter, in a feat of artistic and technical brilliance. The brand’s signature figure of 8 double dial features an applied satin finish ring, 18k red gold star appliques and a 22K gold moon on a black onyx moon disk. The watch pays tribute to the celestial dance between the Sun and the Earth and the Earth and the Moon.
The exquisite self-winding mechanical movement, visible through the case back uses silicon, which is resistant to friction and corrosion, making the moon phase complication in this timepiece a unique ‘true’ moon which requires correction only once in every 122 years. The date and moon phase at 6 o’clock can be set using a corrector set at 8 o’clock.
Subtle Sophistication
Set in an 18K red gold case fitted with a hand rolled black alligator leather strap, this elegant addition to Jaquet Droz’s Grande Seconde collection maintains the clean lines and distinguished aesthetic associated with the collection. 18K red gold hands mark the hours, minutes, seconds and date, and the date hand also has a red tip.
A thoroughly chic, minimalistic horological offering, the Grande Seconde Moon Black Enamel is a powerhouse of technical precision, artisanship and watchmaking achievement. It would make a strong statement in any aficionados’ collection, setting aside its owner as someone with refined tastes, and a definite flair for the more subtle, yet finer things in life.
