Last night, Louis Vuitton unveiled, their first connected watch – ‘Tambour Horizon’, at their Collins Street boutique in Melbourne. The idea behind it: to come up with something playful and luxe. This release comes just 2 months after Louis Vuitton’s sister brand TAG Heuer launched the Connected Modular 45. Very different in case you’re wondering.
The luxe element is clearly evident in the brushed or satin finished stainless steel case. At 42mm wide and 12.55mm thick, the Tambour Horizon is extremely compact and wears well on the wrist. It features a distinctive concave bezel of the Swiss manufacture’s Tambour Moon design; the iconic watch that began Louis Vuitton’s watchmaking story in 2002. You can tell, Louis Vuitton has put a lot of focus on the aesthetics of the watch. The swiveling lugs are perfectly integrated to further enhance wearability. Wearers can choose between 60 readily detachable straps – 30 created for men, 30 for women – allowing the Tambour Horizon to adapt to any occasion.
The watch is made in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. instead of Intel which was selected by TAG Heuer earlier this year. It runs on the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ Wear 2100 platform. Android 2.0 takes the creative aspect to a completely new level offering clients the opportunity to customise and personalise a multitude of watch-faces, which, while true to the signature elements of the Maison, are entirely personal to them. Users can choose from the iconic GMT, chronograph and the Escale. Innovative and apt for travellers, the Tambour Horizon delivers the best of expertise, design and technology via exceptional provenance.
“My Flight” is the first of the brands’ exclusive features that provides up to date flight information while “City Guide”, acts as a personal guide to nearby restaurants, hotels and historical landmarks in real time. Other features as with most smartwatches include notification of phone calls, text messages and emails, alarm, countdown timer, weather report, step counter, etc.
