First introduced in 2017, the MB&F HM7 Aquapod is back in a new, even more exciting 50-piece limited-edition glow-in-the-dark avatar.
Inspired by an encounter with a jellyfish, MB&F founder, and creative genius Maximilian Büsser, decided to bring to life a 3-dimensional horological machine that resembles the tentacled aquatic creature, and designed the HM7 Aquapod in collaboration with designer Eric Giraud.
This larger-than-life timepiece (in every sense of the word!) stays true to the imagination and took many years from conceptualization to realization, and in fact the HM7 was launched after MB&F’s HM8!
The HM7 Aquapod measures a whopping 53.8mm in diameter and rises to a height of 21.3mm. The watch sits comfortably on a high-grade rubber strap which lends it a somewhat unconventional, yet incredibly sporty-cool look.
Under the Sea
The Titanium Green HM7 Aquapod is mechanically identical to the titanium version with a blue ceramic bezel and the red gold version with a black ceramic bezel that were launched at SIHH in 2017. The HM7 Aquapod is powered by a unique vertical movement, entirely developed in-house by MB&F and topped with a 60-second flying tourbillon.
The hours and minutes are indicated on two separate display discs within the case of the HM7 Aquapod. The discs are crafted from aluminum and titanium, supported by specially designed extra-large ceramic ball-bearings. The time markers are hand-painted in Super LumiNova instead of printed, due to the highly curved shape of the watch’s components.
The most striking difference in the 2018 Titanium Green HM7 Aquapod is the vibrant green unidirectional rotating bezel, which floats above the case. Unlike the ceramic bezels of the earlier HM7 Aquapods, the Titanium Green Aquapod has a bezel crafted in several distinct parts. The bezel itself is made from titanium and features a sapphire crystal insert coated with a layer of bright green lacquer which matches the green of the Super LumiNova of the time markers.
In addition, the HM7 Aquapod in Titanium Green has three concentric layers of AGT Ultra (Ambient Glow Technology), a luminescent material around the inside of the movement and the flying tourbillon which makes the timepiece glow bright green in the dark.
Inspiration, imagination, innovation, creativity and craftsmanship come together to form a vivid picture in this unique time-telling machine.
