The outstanding result of a fantasy envisioned by Maximilian Büsser, the MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual is a horological masterpiece that showcases the highest standards of technical precision and creativity.
Tradition redesigned
Conceptualised by Irish independent watchmaker Stephen McDonnell, a long-time friend of MB&F in conjunction with the designers at the brand itself, the perpetual calendar of the Legacy Machine Perpetual is a true work of genius.
The specially designed calibre features 581 fully-integrated components without the addition of a single module or base movement. Exotically beautiful to look at, and visible on the face of the green dial, the movement is entirely controlled by a state-of-the-art mechanical processor (patent pending) that manages to exclude several of the shortcomings of traditional perpetual calendars.
The unique system, which features a standard of 28 days per month, as opposed to the original 31 used by most perpetual calendars, allows for incredible precision and accuracy in the changing of the date. Unlike the 31-day calendars, the calendar of the Legacy Machine Perpetual does not need to ‘delete’ or ‘skip’ dates in order to reflect the correct date. The 28-day month, combined with the mechanical processor allows the right number of days to be added on to each month, and also takes into account the 29th day of February in a leap year.
Complications 2.0
Crafted in grade 5 titanium, the 44mm case of the Legacy Machine Perpetual features a green faced dial which highlights the exquisitely hand-crafted movement and mechanical processor. The hours and minutes indicators are visible at 12 o’clock, ensconced between the arches of the balance. The days of the week are shown at 3 o’clock with the power reserve indicator at 4 o’clock, month at 6 o’clock, retrograde leap year at 7 o’clock and finally the date at 9 o’clock.
A first-time feature for a watch with a perpetual calendar complication, the Legacy Machine Perpetual has skeletonised sub-dials that are placed on hidden studs and appear to float above the movement itself. The sapphire crystal exhibition case back allows for an all round view of the technology that makes this timepiece a true watchmaking achievement.
The 50-piece limited edition Legacy Machine Perpetual Titanium comes with a hand stitched alligator strap in black, grey or dark brown with a titanium folding buckle.
Combining the best aspects of artistry and innovation, the MB&F Legacy Machine Perpetual Titanium will definitely be a piece to watch out for at Baselworld 2018.
