Dedicated to the Seven Summit mountaineering challenge, considered the hardest of its kind in the world, the 1858 Geosphere from Montblanc is a timepiece for the adventurous world explorer.
The watch, like the rest in the new 1858 collection is a fitting 160th anniversary tribute to the Minerva Manufacture, founded in 1858. The 1858 Geosphere features a brand new worldtime complication with two turning hemisphere globes. The domed hemispheres make a full rotation over a 24-hour period, with the northern hemisphere at 12 o’clock turning anti-clockwise and the southern hemisphere at 6 o’clock turning clockwise. Both hemispheres are encircled by a scale representing 24 time zones and a day/night indication. The innovative two-hemisphere world time display is unique to the 1858 Geosphere, which also has a second time zone display at 9 o’clock and a date display aperture at 3 o’clock.
The Seven Summits from which this watchmaking masterpiece draws its inspiration are distinctly marked on the globes with red dots, and are also engraved on the case back along with a drawing of Mont Blanc, a compass and two crossed ice pick-axes which serve to enhance the position of the 1858 Geosphere as a watch for the rugged mountaineer.
Ruggedly Handsome
Available in a stainless steel or a limited edition bronze version, the case of the 1858 Geosphere has a polished satin finish and bidirectional bezel with black ceramic. The black dial features a striking contrast with rhodium-plated or red-gold coated elements in the stainless steel and bronze models respectively. Beige luminescent Arabic numeral, authentic 1930s Montblanc logo, domed cathedral-shaped hands and a railway track complete the exceptional detailing of this vintage-inspired, modern timepiece.
Water resistant upto 100m, the 1858 Geosphere comes with either a black ‘NATO’ strap, a cognac-coloured strap in aged calfskin or a Bund strap in aged brown Sfumato leather, to represent the straps of the original Minerva timepieces from the 1920s and 1930s. As a final homage, the bronze edition of the 1858 Geosphere is limited to 1858 pieces only, marking the year of foundation of the Minerva Manufacture.
