The Norton motorcycle company has an illustrious history of racing success. It was 110 years ago that Rem Fowler took Norton motorcycles to international fame by winning the twin-cylinder class at the first
Isle of Man ‘Tourist Trophy’ meeting at an average speed of 36.22 mph – having led the race by the remarkable margin of half-an-hour.
At the Isle of Man T.T 2017, the team was represented by Aussie duo David Johnson and Josh Brookes competing on the all-new SG6. And by its side was Bremont – the team’s principal sponsor. For those of you new to this world, The Isle of Man T.T. is an annual motorcycle sport event held on the Isle of Man in May or June of most years since its inaugural race in 1907. This is that moment when the best of British engineering come together.
To celebrate this link, there are two very special Norton-inspired chronographs that also complement the spectacular SG6 race bike. The limited edition V4SS and V4 have all the ingredients of stellar race-watches. Aesthetically they evoke the design of the bike, and in function they are excellent examples of their type.
Exclusivity unbound
There are just 200 V4SS machines complete with polished aluminum frames, full carbon-fibre bodywork and 1200cc engines, all designed and built in-house. To complement these there are 200 special versions of the new Bremont Norton chronograph, exclusively for V4SS owners. The 43mm polished steel case watch bears numerals inspired by those seen on the bike’s speedometer. The silvered dials have a black Norton logo. Another special touch is the carbon fibre inserts to the red-bordered chronograph counters.
To celebrate the unlimited-production Norton V4SS, meanwhile, Bremont has created another stunning version of the watch, again limited to 200 pieces that will be available for general sale. What’s different here are the gold chronograph borders. It has a gold Norton logo, and is again housed in a beautiful polished Trip-Tick three-piece case.
The caseback of both these models also offers a spectacular sight. Turning both models of the watch over reveals a superb, red-painted winding rotor inspired by the design of the V4’s carbon fibre wheels, the colour being repeated in the hand-stitching of the perforated leather strap. The watches have the modified calibre 13 1⁄4’’’ BE-50AE automatic chronometer.
