The unveiling of the OMEGA Seamaster Aqua Terra World Timer collection brought about a refreshing wave at Time To Move last week. Since its first release several years ago, the Seamaster Aqua Terra Worldtimer has enjoyed tremendous success and popularity. This year, the Bienne-based brand continues to showcase its exquisite craftsmanship and attention to detail with 4 new standard production versions of its most complex timepiece.
What makes these watch instantly covetable are its visually striking design aesthetics. The sun-brushed blue or opaline silvery dial includes the Aqua Terra’s vertical teak stripes, as well as a new inner ring. The dial is surrounded by a circle of global destinations and, for a special touch, these include the city of Bienne at GMT+1, OMEGA’s home in Switzerland. In the centre, you have a 24-hour hesalite crystal ring. The light blue half indicates daytime, while the dark blue half indicates night.
Using a grade 5 titanium plate, OMEGA has created its vision of the Earth as seen from the North Pole. This has been laser-ablated to create the blue ocean, leaving a relief of the continents. The contrasting colours of the Earth’s surface are obtained naturally by the laser’s chemical reaction.
The 43 mm cases are made from 18K Sedna™ gold or stainless steel. Despite its fairly large case profile, the watch sits extremely well on the wrist. The models with rubber or leather straps have been integrated with polished links which is reminiscent of the style within OMEGA’s core Aqua Terra collection.
Inside, the Worldtimer is driven by the Master Chronometer Calibre 8938/8939. You can see the movement work wonders through the sapphire crystal case back. The movements and complete watches have reached the industry’s highest standard of precision as approved by the Swiss Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS).
