Panerai Luna Rossa Watches & Wonders 2020

The Panerai x Luna Rossa collection of timepieces unveiled last year, celebrates Panerai’s role as the official sponsor of the Luna Rossa, the Challenger of Record of the 36^th Edition of the America’s Cup. This year, the duo solidifies its partnership once again, with a very special dual timezone watch – Panerai Luminor Luna Rossa GMT – 44 mm (PAM01036).

This special edition adopts the easily identifiable Luminor traits and uses an array of colours that are reminiscent of Luna Rossa in particular the ‘Luna Rossa RED’. The 44mm black DLC coated titanium cushion-shaped case, water resistant to 300m, integrates perfectly with the black DLC coated titanium bezel and the “Ponte Vecchio” calfskin (black with white stitching) strap with a trapezoidal pin buckle in titanium. The arty dark grey sail cloth sandwich structure dial with abstract textures is made using bits from actual sails on the Luna Rossa and is extremely captivating. Also placed around the dial are white luminous arabic numerals and indices. There is a small seconds dial at 9 o clock and a date window at 3 o clock. You also have a red tipped GMT hand. A personalised inscription on the dial as well as an intricate engraving on the case back, reaffirms its role as Official Watch of Luna Rossa, the Challenger of Record of the 36^th Edition of the America’s Cup.

Beating within is the Caliber P.9010/GMT, designed and developed entirely by the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel. It stands out for the presence of dual barrels that store sufficient energy for a three-day power reserve and rapid time adjustment connected to the modification of the date. The GMT function is crucial for synchronizing with the time zone of Luna Rossa as it is approaching the 36th America’s Cup.
