To celebrate the completion of its new production building in Plan-les-Ouates (Geneva, Switzerland), Patek Philippe has unveiled the Calatrava Ref. 6007A-001 Limited Edition – an exclusive Calatrava in stainless steel and the manufacture’s first launch of 2020.
Limited to just 1,000 pieces, this watch strikes the perfect balance between classic watchmaking principles, casual aesthetics and new-age techniques. It carries the legacy of the Calatrava collection with aplomb, thanks to the beautifully rounded and perfectly proportioned case. Here, the polished steel case measures 40mm in diameter and is 9.07mm thick, ensuring the watch stands out boldly, fits seamlessly on the wrist and looks fetching when donned. The broad cambered bezel which has also been polished adds to the overall appeal.
Inside this case is a dial, which is an absolute pleasure to look at. The grey-blue hue is a signature element which is accompanied by the subtle circular satin finish that contrasts visibly against the white dial imprints as well as the applied numerals and the white-lacquered hands in white gold with luminescent coating. A “carbon” style texture sitting at the centre of the dial, creates an interesting contrast. Other details include the railway track scale of the hour circle with triangular markers, the baton hands for the hours and minutes that recall the Ref. 6006 Calatrava, the date window at 3 o’clock and the applied Arabic numerals – All these elements contribute to a vibrant and exciting dial architecture.
Housed inside the Calatrava Ref. 6007A-001 Limited Edition is a self-winding movement Caliber 324 S C that is made up of 213 parts. The movement beats at a frequency of 28,800 semi-oscillation per hour or 4 Hz and delivers a power reserve of approximately 45 hours. Wearers can appreciate the intricacies of the movement, complete with its 21K gold rotor through the sapphire crystal case back. The caseback has also been marked with a Calatrava cross and the “New Manufacture 2019” inscription.
The Calatrava Ref. 6007A-001 Limited Edition is worn on a grey-blue calfskin strap with white decorative seams. The strap, with its delicately embossed pattern, reminiscent of textile fabrics, is beautifully coordinated in terms of color and structure to complement the dial.
