Rare and mystical, meteorite dials have graced the wrists of watch lovers for years now. There’s something psychologically comforting about it… Yes? A few weeks ago, at SIHH 2019, Piaget unveiled various versions of its iconic ultra-thin Altiplano timepiece, including a 40mm polished 18K pink gold version with a meteorite dial; beautifully complimented with pink gold indexes and hands. The distinctive lines seen here on the surface of the meteorite are known as Widmanstätten patterns, typical of the crystallised nickel-iron structures found within iron meteorites.
At a baffling thickness of only 6.5mm, the watch, houses an ultra-thin self-winding calibre 1203P. This is the same calibre used by Piaget back in 2017 in its Altiplano Automatic watches. It is beautifully finished with a circular-grained plate, bevelled bridges with circular Côtes de Genève, sunburst-brushed wheels and blue screws; all visible through the sapphire caseback.

The thin lugs, polished bezel, flat caseband and minimalistic crown are classic Piaget. Limited to 300 pieces, this absolutely stunning piece of horology is presented on a finely crafted grey alligator leather strap with an 18K pink gold pin buckle.
