Ladies and Gentleman, please put your hands together for the secret star of IWC’s fleet. Limited to 500 pieces, the new IWC Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “Mojave Desert” (Ref. IW389103) unveiled at the SIHH 2019 is the first watch with a case made from sand-coloured ceramic. San-coloured ceramic for the simple reason, that the watch is inspired by the Mojave Desert, home to the Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake – the largest land area of the U.S. Navy. The colour perfectly matches the uniforms worn by Navy pilots and is the result of a combination of zirconium oxide with other metallic oxides.
A solid instrument, the 44.5mm Pilot’s Watch Chronograph TOP GUN Edition “Mojave Desert” (Ref. IW389103) is fitted with an in-house-manufactured column-wheel chronograph 69380 caliber with pawl winding system. It boasts a power reserve of 46 hours and has a soft-iron inner case that protects the mechanism against magnetic fields.
The dusty brown dial is a great choice and accentuates the whole sand-coloured look. Other details include, sand coloured hands and hour markers, a day and date display window at 3 o’clock, the chronograph functions, with elapsed hours and minutes on sub dials at 9 o clock and 12 o clock. The running seconds sub dial at 6 o clock is equipped with a hacking mechanism. To complete the look, the watch is presented on a very versatile sand-coloured textile strap.
