Oris
Friday 3 March, 2017: A true masterpiece, the new Oris Royal Flying Doctor Service Limited Edition II breathes new life into its partnership with Australia’s Royal Flying Doctor Service. For those of you new to this partnership, how about we give you a quick rundown. The Oris-RFDS partnership began in 2013 with a view to support one of the world’s most iconic aeromedical services and non-profit organization. The Royal Flying Doctor Service provides emergency and primary healthcare services to people living in rural areas of Australia and operates a fleet of more than 60 aircrafts from bases around the country.

The RFDS Limited Edition II is an innovative piece of horology that draws inspiration from the world of aviation. Uncluttered and as straight forward as it gets, the dial of the RFDS Limited Edition II takes its design cues from Oris’ legendary Big Crown Collection. The beautifully styled 45mm stainless steel case and black dial form a perfect backdrop for the pulsometer scale which is the highlight of the watch.
Taking its inspiration from Australia’s outbacks, the pulsometer scale is in a contrasting deep orange color and is scaled over 20 heartbeats for even faster readings. The bi-directional rotating bezel here simply means that pulses can be measured at any given time and can also be used as a timer or a second time zone.
To reflect the close relationship between the two organizations, The Royal Flying Doctor Service’s iconic logo marks the 12 o’clock position and also the pulsometer’s zero mark. The logo is embossed on the case back and on the final presentation box as a medal.

Limited to 2,000 pieces, the RFDS Limited Edition II is a watch with a high-performance ratio that comes at an affordable and sensible price point: AUD $2,600 for the brown leather strap, AUD $2,800 for the metal bracelet and AUD $2,850 for the alligator strap.
