It would be easy to wax eloquent about the different techniques used to create the Excalibur Knights of the Round Table III, and the immense accuracy, skill and patience that accompany them, but instead, here’s a little bit about why this watch can’t help but make us take a second look.
As the name suggests, the Excalibur Knights of the Round Table III, part of Roger Dubuis’ Excalibur collection, is the third installment of the extremely exclusive Knights of the Round Table line.
Inspired by the legend of King Arthur, and his knights of the round table, the 45mm watch manages to successfully narrate the age-old tale of the one true King who drew out the fabled sword, Excalibur from a stone.
Ok so it’s probably a touch too ostentatious for our tastes, and a bit excessive to wear on the wrist, but it’s impossible to deny the immense artistry and precision demonstrated by the Knights of the Round Table III.
The dial of the Excalibur Knights of the Round Table III itself, representing the mythological table is crafted from blocks of translucent blue enamel and sculpted gold. The 12 fabled knights take their positions as the hour markers around the dial and are painstaking forged from 18K pink gold using a technique known as low-poly sculpting. This technique uses tiny polygonal facets of gold to create a 3-dimensional figure.
The knights around the table valiantly point their gold swords towards the center as they take the mythological oath of allegiance to King Arthur ‘swearing to spare no effort, overcome any obstacle and return triumphant’.
The regal blue dial is perfectly complemented by the blue alligator leather strap, and sword-style central hands indicate the hours and minutes, if telling the time is really what you would use this watch for!
Limited to just 28 awe-inspiring pieces available exclusively at Roger Dubuis boutiques, the Excalibur Knights of the Round Table III is definitely a watch worth dropping in to see in the metal if you’re in the neighbourhood, or have an extra CHF 285,000 lying around.
