The Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona may have completed more than a 50 years, but it still rules the tracks. It’s a watch that personifies the link between Rolex and motorsports. The story of this watch speaks of interwoven destinies.
Rolex created this timepiece in 1963 and the proven track record of half a century has beyond doubt made the “Daytona” the most coveted chronograph in the world, and a motorsport icon in its own right.
Three new versions
Rolex has introduced three new versions of the Oyster Perpetual Cosmograph Daytona in 18 carat yellow, white or Everose gold. The iconic motorsport watch has proven its reliability and precision for generations and is an undisputed icon when it comes to racing watches.
The striking Black and yellow gold combination gives it a very distinct look. The monobloc Cerachrom bezel is extremely durable. Corrosion resistant, virtually scratch proof and unaffected by UV rays, this extremely durable bezel also offers an exceptionally legible tachymetric scale, thanks to the deposition of a thin layer of 18 ct gold or platinum in the numerals and graduations via a PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) process. It is made in a single piece and holds the crystal firmly in place on the middle case, ensuring waterproofness.
The waterproofness of the case is legendary and guaranteed to a depth of 100 metres. The winding crown is fitted with a Triplock triple waterproofness system as well as chronograph pushers which screw down securely against the case.
The characteristically shaped middle case is crafted from a solid block of 18 carat gold. Its fluted case back is hermetically screwed down with a special tool that allows only Rolex watchmakers to access the movement. The water-proof Oyster case provides optimum protection for the Cosmograph Daytona’s high-precision movement, calibre 4130. This is a self-winding mechanical chronograph movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex featuring a power reserve of approximately 72 hours. Its architecture, a composite of Rolex technology, was completely re-engineered: the number of components for the chronograph function was reduced significantly, thereby enhancing the movement’s reliability.
Superlative Chronometer certification
Like all Rolex watches, the Cosmograph Daytona is covered by the Superlative Chronometer certification redefined by Rolex in 2015. This exclusive designation testifies that the watch has successfully undergone a series of tests conducted by Rolex in its own laboratories according to a criteria, which exceeds conventional watchmaking norms and standards.
