To celebrate its partnership with one of the most successful international rugby teams of all time – The New Zealand All Blacks, and the Rugby World Cup 2019 , TUDOR presents a new Limited Edition timepiece. Introducing the new Black Bay Chrono Dark.
Dressed in black, to perfectly match the All Blacks’ famous jersey and team colour, the new Black Bay Chrono Dark, features a 41 mm matt black PVD-treated steel case with satin finish. Directly derived from the thin-film technology originally developed by NASA for its various space programmes, PVD, or Physical Vapour Deposition, enables practically any inorganic material to be bonded with metals. A fixed bezel in matt black PVD-treated steel with a matt black anodised aluminium disc with tachymetric scale and silvered markings, sits on top of the case. The caseback, winding crown and chrono pushers, ensure 200m of waterproofness.
Fitted to a matt black PVD-treated steel bracelet with a matt black PVD-treated folding clasp and safety catch, the watch feels incredible on the wrist.
Unusually for TUDOR, the new model is a limited edition: a watch to pay tribute to every player who has been selected for New Zealand’s national rugby team from its creation in 1903 to the RWC 2019, or 1181 timepieces at the time of writing. The number will be adjusted according to the final composition of the World Cup team. The series will grow over the coming years as new players join the ranks of the All Blacks.
The black dial is immaculately designed with Tudor’s iconic ‘Snowflake’ hands, a perfectly placed 45 minute chronograph and small seconds counter at 3 and 9 o clock respectively. The little touches of red ensure there’s enough contrast.
All in all the new Black Bay Chrono Dark makes a solid statement. Quite evidently, a watch of this stature takes the top spot in any watch collector’s list.
Working under the hood is a high performance MT5813 column-wheel chronograph caliber boasting a power reserve of approx. 70 hours. The movement is chronometer certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute and also features a silicon balance spring. It has been crafted in the purest watchmaking tradition, with column wheel mechanism and vertical clutch. Derived from the Manufacture chronograph Calibre Breitling 01, with a high-precision regulating organ developed by TUDOR and dedicated finishes, the movement is the result of a lasting collaboration between the two brands. They have chosen to pool their expertise in the design and production of certain mechanical movements so that both parties can benefit from their use.
