Since the relaunch of the Overseas in 2016, Vacheron Constantin has introduced a variety of models, but the most compelling would have to be the perpetual calendar. For this 2021 edition of Watches & Wonders, Vacheron Constantin presents the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin and Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Skeleton in 18k white gold with touches of blue.
Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin White Gold With Blue Lacquered Dial
The new Vacheron Constantin Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin is presented for the very first time in an 18K white gold case and bracelet or calfskin leather strap with grey stitches / blue rubber strap, along with a translucent blue lacquered dial. If you’re an Overseas aficionado, you’d agree that there is something thrilling about the polished hexagonal bezel and contrasting brushed case and bracelet. The brilliance of the gold extends to the deep blue dial, whose hour-markers and hands are also made of 18K white gold. The nuanced detailing on the dial also includes snailed finishing on the sub-dials. With a thickness of just 8.1mm and a diameter of 41.5mm, the new Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin is powered by CALIBRE 1120 QP/1, a mechanical self-winding movement developed and manufactured by Vacheron Constantin. The movement drives the hours, minutes, perpetual calendar function – with the day of the week, date, month and leap year shown on a 48-month counter – as well as moon phases, beats at a frequency of 2.75 Hz and delivers a power reserve of approximately 40 hours. The perpetual calendar copes smoothly with calendar irregularities and will require no correction until 2100. Achieving such a performance with such a thin movement, comprising 276 components, called for authentic prowess in terms of both construction and miniaturisation. This calibre is also enhanced by multiple finishing operations hand-crafted in accordance with Haute Horlogerie traditions: Côtes de Genève striped motif, straight-graining, chamfering and circular-graining. In a touch representing the height of chic style, the caseback reveals a 22K gold oscillating weight adorned with a compass rose symbolising the spirit of travel and exploration.
Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Skeleton White Gold
Following the success of the 2020 pink gold Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Skeleton, Vacheron Constantin is now presenting a boutique only white gold version of this timepiece with hints of blue. Apart from the 41.5mm polished and satin-brushed case, this model features a skeleton dial that will compel you to immerse yourself into the heart of the movement and experience the thrill of the inner workings. The sapphire crystal case back reveals the gear trains and the NAC-treated oscillating weight with its segment in 22K gold, which is also openworked so as to highlight its stylised design shaped like a Maltese cross. The finishing work is meticulous: from the straight-graining of the surfaces (to lend a satin-brushed look to the chamfered straight lines) and the curves (to create light effects) to circular brushing, sunburst finishing, circular-graining and polishing (to vary the depth effects), every aspect bears the imprint of the artisans’ golden touch.
Coming to the dial – The perpetual calendar layout is identical to the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin and is arranged around four sub-dials. Whereas watches indicating the day of the week, date and month require constant adjustments in step with months of 28, 29 and 30 days, the Overseas perpetual calendar ultra-thin skeleton watch will not require the slightest intervention until the year 2100 – an ultimate user-friendly feature. Additionally, the dial bears 18K white gold hour-markers and hours & minutes hands highlighted with Super-LumiNova.
Like all models in the Overseas collection, this exceptional watch offers a modular touch via a simple and convenient bracelet/strap interchangeability system. Fitted with a white gold bracelet whose satin- brushed half Maltese cross-shaped links underline the elegance of the timepiece, it also comes with two additional straps in blue calfskin leather and blue rubber.
Powered by Calibre 1120 QPSQ/1 (where all components of the movement have been hollowed out, finished and decorated in such a way as to accentuate the functional beauty of the mechanism), the new Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Skeleton White Gold beats at a frequency of 2.75 Hz (19,800 vibrations per hour) and delivers a power reserve of approx. 40 hours.
