TIMELAB strengthens its expertise

by Hours and Minutes Australia

TIMELAB has become the first watchmaking certifications body in Switzerland to have its entire range of activities accredited under four international ISO/IEC standards. The Poinçon de Genève (Geneva hallmark) and Observatoire Chronométrique + (rating certificate) are the first certifications involved. The aim is to add more to value the work of the watchmakers and provide customers with an additional guarantee of quality.

TIMELAB has both raised its standards and reaffirmed its authority in the field of watchmaking certification. The recent accreditation for four ISO/IEC standards cover all of TIMELAB’s activities – the Poinçon de Genève, the Observatoire Chronométrique + certifications as well as its R&D centre. These four international standards strengthen TIMELAB’s credibility and expertise in terms of quality, reliability,
transparency and efficiency. And, to the benefit of the watchmaking companies and their end customers, they ensure that the excellence of Swiss watches is upheld.

ISO/CEI 17025 SCS AND ISO/CEI 17025 STS NORMS :
FOR FULLY INDEPENDENT TESTS AND TRIALS

TIMELAB’s purpose in applying these two standards is to make its certification activities, advisory services, assessments and R&D more consistent. The ISO/IEC 17025 SCS norm covers the calibration of its measuring systems, while ISO/IEC 17025 STS lays down
the testing procedure and guarantees the results. Applied together, these two standards ensure total operational independence, not only for the Poinçon de Genève and Observatoire Chronométrique + certification, but also for tests undertaken in its R&D laboratory.

ISO/CEI 17020 NORM :
A STANDARD FOR ON-SITE TEST AND INSPECTIONS

The ISO/IEC 17020 norm allows TIMELAB to conduct on-site audits of watchmaking companies. This means that TIMELAB can inspect quality, measurements and manufacturing methods directly in the workshops. This enables watch manufacturers to save valuable production time, especially when it comes to the certification procedures for the Poinçon de Genève and Observatoire Chronométrique +.

ISO/CEI 17065 NORM :
THE ONLY CHRONOMETER CERTIFICATION IN SWITZERLAND FOR CASED-UP WATCHES

The ISO/IEC 17065 enables TIMELAB to issue an international standard certificate for a completed watch for the first time in Switzerland. The new Observatoire Chronométrique + certificate of excellence, based on the well-established ISO/IEC 3159 chronometer standard, applies to the cased-up watch instead of only the movement. TIMELAB can also conduct wearer simulations as well as additional tests for magnetism, water resistance and rated power reserve, all of which add up to a real assurance of quality for the end customer.

Accreditations that bring considerable benefits to the watch industry

They keep up the level of excellence of Swiss watches and ensure that TIMELAB provides a range of up-to-date services with the technology to match.

They put TIMELAB’s activities under the authority of the Swiss Accreditation Service (SAS). Manufacturers are thus guaranteed that all TIMELAB’s certificates have been properly issued.

They allow manufacturers to shorten their production flow, thanks to on-site inspections.

They make TIMELAB’s test procedures, inspections and certification activities more transparent to manufacturers.
